One Down

Well, it's been a long time coming since I starting writing original fiction in '07, but I finally have a completed rough draft. It might only be just over 21K, but it's one down.

I expected to feel more accomplished. I... don't.

Confused now.

  1. First of all, congratulations on your achievement. You wrote 21K words! Whether you feel it or not you HAVE accomplished something!

Secondly, I sort of know where you're coming from, as I've completed 50K of my Nanowrimo novel and I'm full of questions and doubts. The best advice I can offer is write down your feelings, either in your journal or as letter to yourself. Ask yourself why you are feeling confused and then see if you can address the reasons. Things are often no where near as bad as we think!

  2. Having gotten the first feedback from betas, it would appear that it was a subconscious realisation there's still a lot of work to do. And not very much time.

  3. I find I always feel disconcerted when I finish a draft. I love to live in the world of the writing, and finishing a draft means I am leaving that world behind. For stories I intend no sequel, it means leaving that world for good. I'm happy to get the drafts out, but let-down at the same time. I think it's natural. And congrats, too, BTW.
